Laser Spider Vein Removal
It is very common for women to develop prominent veins throughout their bodies, which are caused by a combination of heredity, hormonal fluctuations, weight gain, pregnancy, and aging. A very common vein problem is spider veins. Although relatively harmless, spider veins may be accompanied by symptoms that can cause discomfort.
Spider Veins
Spider veins are called such due to their web-like pattern, appearing as thin red lines that you see just under the surface of the skin on your face, arms, or legs. They may or may not be accompanied by symptoms, such as pain, swelling, or a burning sensation. If you have spider veins on your face, arms, or legs and they cause you embarrassment and discomfort, consider laser treatment. Laser therapy is usually recommended for patients for whom more conservative methods such as wearing compression stockings have failed to work.
What is Laser Spider Vein Removal?
Laser spider vein removal uses strong bursts of light to destroy spider veins and cut off blood supply to them, causing them to fade away in just a few months. This type of spider vein treatment is non-invasive and very effective on smaller veins – both on the face and legs. During the procedure, the laser transmits photons, which, when absorbed by the blood cells in the veins, cause them to self-destruct. Multiple sessions are often needed to produce the desired results. After several sessions, the spider veins will gradually shrink and be reabsorbed by the body over time.
What To Expect After Treatment
After a session of laser therapy, it’s normal for the treated area to appear red. The redness should go away after about four hours. You may experience slight tingling in the treated area akin to the sensation of having a sunburn. Applying ice to it can help soothe the sensation. Some patients may experience slight swelling, which should also subside after a few days. Avoid applying makeup to the area until the redness, swelling, and tingling have subsided, and wait at least a day before applying lotion. If you are unsure of something, please check with your doctor.
