Benefits of Laser Vein Treatments

Thinking varicose veins will resolve on their own or go away is a mistake you don’t want to make. While those pesky veins are mostly a cosmetic issue, they can cause significant pain, and increase in size and numbers. Severe cases of varicose veins can even lead to potentially serious complications, such as blood clots.

If you’ve started to notice lumpy, twisted, or bulging veins appearing in your legs, consider seeking treatment from a vein expert. If you live in or around the Liberty area in Missouri, visit us here at Missouri Vein Specialists. Dr. Scott Darling, our board-certified vascular surgeon, utilizes a vast array of treatment modalities, including state-of-the-art noninvasive and minimally invasive laser therapies, which have been proven to effectively banish superficial vein problems.

In this blog post, we are going to explore the laser vein treatments we offer here at Missouri Vein Specialists, particularly the specific benefits that you can reap from them.

xeo® Cutera Laser Therapy

xeo® Cutera Laser Therapy is a customizable laser and light-based system used for addressing an extensive range of aesthetic concerns—including spider veins and small varicose veins. The procedure involves Dr. Darling running the device over the area to deliver small bursts of low-level laser energy and close off the problematic veins. The blood flow in these vessels is redirected to nearby healthy veins.

This quick, in-office procedure delivers results right away. Expect very minimal side effects, such as a mild stinging sensation and a little bruising and redness at the treatment site. Since this is purely noninvasive, there is also no appreciable downtime. However, you should avoid strenuous workouts for a few days.

Dr. Darling recommends elevating your leg/s and doing moderate exercise to facilitate quick healing.

Endovenous Laser Treatment

Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) is recommended for mild to moderate varicose veins. It involves Dr. Darling delivering laser energy through a catheter to the wall of the diseased vein to heat it and close it off. Once the vein collapses, blood gets diverted to the nearby healthy veins.

EVLT is a minimally invasive procedure, and thus, it leaves you with virtually no scars. It also requires little to no downtime and involves a fairly quick recovery.  Some studies show that EVLT yields superior outcomes—up to 98 percent success rate—compared to surgical vein stripping.

Your aftercare instructions for this type of treatment are similar to those of xeo® Cutera Laser Therapy, which include having to wear compression stockings for a week or two.
