What Should I Avoid After Undergoing Spider Vein Treatment?
Sclerotherapy and laser vein treatment are both minimally invasive treatments for eliminating unsightly superficial veins or spider veins. Because sclerotherapy and laser vein treatment are minimally invasive, there is little or no downtime involved.
However, there are a few simple things you should do to assist your body with healing after the treatment and to avoid complications. Let’s talk about what you should avoid doing while you heal from spider vein treatments, and where you can go in Kansas City to get clear, beautiful legs again.
#1: Avoid Vigorous or Strenuous Activities or Heavy Exercise
You should be able to resume normal activities after having these treatments, but avoid physically demanding activities and strenuous exercise. High-impact exercises such as running, jogging, lifting weights, and playing sports should be avoided for at least a day or so, depending on the advice of the vein doctor.
Some exercises can be resumed the following day, while others may be safely resumed after about two weeks. However, be sure to first check with your vein doctor before resuming exercises.
#2: Avoid Being Sedentary
It is important to prevent blood clots from forming during this time. Taking short walks several times per day helps improve circulation and is a preventative against blood clots.
The reason why vein doctors also recommend that you wear compression stockings for a couple of weeks after treatment is to maintain compression on the veins and to increase blood flow.
#3: Avoid Sun Exposure
There may be some inflammation after the treatment. If the treated areas are exposed to sunlight, dark spots may develop on your legs, and burning can also occur – which creates another problem that needs to be treated.
If it is not possible to avoid sunlight, try to reduce sun exposure and apply sunblock liberally on your legs. Ask your vein specialist if there is a recommended sunblock that can be helpful, and possibly nourishing and moisturizing to the skin.
#4: Avoid Taking Hot Showers or Baths
After spider vein removal, the treated veins will shrink and be reabsorbed by the body. The heat from saunas and hot showers and baths can cause the veins to dilate, which can enlarge the veins rather than allowing them to shrink.
#5: Avoid Taking Anti-Inflammatories
Inflammation is a normal response by the body to spider vein treatment, but anti-inflammatory medication may interfere with the results of treatment and increase bleeding. Ask your vein doctor about which pain relievers are recommended to take while you heal.
