Vein Treatments Often Performed by a Vein Doctor

There are several popular vein procedures that help to minimize or eliminate leg pain while also making the legs look smoother, without the look of twisted varicose veins and spider veins. Some of these treatments include the following:

Endovenous Ablation

With endovenous ablation therapy, heat is delivered directly into a varicose vein – through a catheter inserted via tiny incisions – thereby damaging the vein walls, and causing them to close off and shut down. At our vein clinic, the vein doctor uses ultrasound to find the exact location of the abnormal vein. This method leaves virtually no scars.

Microphlebectomy

To carry out this treatment method, we make a tiny nick in the skin above the problematic vein and use a special hook to physically remove the varicose vein. Afterward, bandages will be placed over the nicks. Our vein clinic frequently uses microphlebectomy to treat superficial varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment for spider veins and superficial varicose veins. For the procedure, we inject a sclerosing (hardening, or scarring) solution into the vein, then massage the area in order to distribute the solution in the vein.

This causes the lining of the blood vessel to become irritated and swell, blocking the flow of blood through the vein, and causing scar tissue to form. Over time, the closed vein will be absorbed naturally by the body, greatly improving the appearance of the leg.

Vein Laser Treatments

Laser vein treatments involve the use of laser heat to destroy the vein walls, without the need for incisions and nicks to treat spider veins and varicose veins. In our vein clinic, we use Cutera Xeo laser, a highly customizable laser treatment that we combine with the Zimmer cooling device – which keeps skin cool and keeps you comfortable throughout the procedure.

The cooling device that we use reduces the risk of bruising and blistering after the treatment. It also greatly minimizes pain and discomfort, so anesthesia is not necessary.
