Cosmetic Vein Treatment: How Long Does the Treatment Last?
Vein diseases, such as varicose and spider veins, are often a cause of cosmetic concern in most people. Fortunately, many options are available for the treatment of veins that make your affected area (face and legs) look bad.
These treatments are performed with the aim to:
- Improve the appearance of your unsightly varicose veins and spider vein that appears on your arms, face, legs, and chest
- Relieve discomfort and bruising caused by the vein problem
Cosmetic vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy and laser vein treatment, simultaneously address cosmetic concerns and alleviate the painful symptoms of vein disease.
Let’s talk about common cosmetic vein treatment options, how they work, how long their results last, and where you can go in Kansas City for effective vein treatment.
Common Cosmetic Vein Treatment Options
Cosmetic vein treatments encompass a variety of methods that are used to minimize or completely remove spider and varicose veins. These methods have no risk and are rather cost-effective.
Here we’ll discuss a few cosmetics vein treatment methods and how they work.
- Sclerotherapy – This is an FDA-approved “gold-standard” cosmetic treatment for varicose veins of the legs. During this cosmetic vein treatment, a sclerosing agent (normally a surfactant) is injected into your problematic vein. The sclerosant constricts the vein, close it up, and allows it to be reabsorbed by the surrounding healthy tissues of the body. The blood of the treated vein is redirected to the healthy veins.
For varicose veins that are deeper in the legs, the vein doctor may use imaging techniques like ultrasound to locate the affected vein and treat it.
- Endovenous Ablation– In endovenous ablation, laser or radio waves are used to close unsightly veins. For the procedure, first, your skin is numbed, and a small cut is made to your skin over the vein. Then a tube is inserted into your veins. The tube has a device that uses radio waves or a laser to create heat that closes the vein. The vein closed by this method also fades away over time.
How Long Does the Treatment Last?
The selection of cosmetic vein treatment methods is based on an individual’s vein condition and preference. Most cosmetic vein treatment methods are performed in the vein doctor’s office.
Each treatment method has a different procedure duration. For example, if sclerotherapy is your desired treatment, your one sclerotherapy session will take anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes. On the other hand, if your vein doctor has suggested laser vein treatment, your procedure will take an hour or less to complete.
You may need several treatments (approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart) to close the problematic veins completely. If you’ve small veins, you’ll be able to see the result in around 3-6 weeks. However, for a large vein, it may take roughly 3 months to see the final result of treatment.
Cosmetics vein treatment has little or no downtime. You will be provided with after-care instructions to get most of your treatment.
